On October 8th, 40 of the top high school hockey players in the state took part in the annual Michigan Developmental Hockey League (MDHL) Showcase at the Plymouth Cultural Central (Plymouth, MI).
Players earned a spot in the game based on their play over the past 2.5 months of MDHL league play, where 6 teams of Michigan high school players (representing more than 50 schools!) compete against each other from early August through the start of the high school season in November.  The league serves as a development avenue for players, while at the same time providing scouting exposure along the way.
This year’s showcase event was extremely well-attended by junior, collegiate, and professional scouts, and served as a great way to bring so many players and scouts together in one location for a single game.  More than 20 scouts were in attendance from the NHL, USHL, NAHL, and GOJHL (among others), in hopes of identifying the next crop of high school talent to move on to hockey’s higher levels.
The game itself was exciting and fast-paced, and served as evidence of the talent that exists in Michigan high school hockey programs today.  At the end of 60 minutes of play, MDHL Green defeated MDHL White by a score of 3-2.
Goal scorers for Green included Krzysztof Petryla (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s), Dylan Dooley (Detroit Catholic Central), and Hunter Allen (Trenton).  Goal scores for White included Ashton Bol (Grand Rapids Christian) and Jacob Kornoelje (Woodhaven).  Shots were 34 to 30, in favor of Green.
