Four players from the MDHL were selected in the USHL Phase II Draft on Tuesday.

Four players from the MDHL were selected in the USHL Phase II Draft on Tuesday, highlighted by the first-round selection of 2015 alum, goaltender Derek Schaedig.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound goaltender was taken 14th overall by the Chicago Steel, after a 2016-17 season in which Schaedig played 29 games for NAHL Janesville, totaling 15 wins, .902 save percentage and a 2.98 goals-against average. He also had a four-game stint with USHL Lincoln in which he went 4-0-0 with a 1.74 goals-against average and .942 save percentage.

Teammates at Brighton High as well as MDHL Black in 2016, senior Jake Crespi and junior Adam Conquest were selected in the second and fifth rounds respectively. The duo helped Team Black to the MDHL’s first undefeated season, a perfect 10-0-0 last Fall and also claimed a Division-I state championship over Detroit Catholic Central in mid-March.

After being named Mr. Hockey 2017 and verbally committing to NCAA Lake Superior State, Crespi was selected 32nd overall by the Tri-City Storm. Conquest would go 42 picks later to Des Moines with the 74th overall pick of the fifth round.

And rounding out the selections was Grosse Pointe South senior forward Adam Pitters, who went 223rd overall to Muskegon. He is currently with NAHL Aberdeen, playing in the second round of the playoffs where the Wings are tied 1-1 in a five-game series with the Minnesota Wilderness. Pitters has two goals and three points in six playoff games.

Five other MI-HS players were also selected in the draft. Jack Clement from Brother Rice, Connor McGinnis from Country Day, Rory Anderson from Calumet and Ryan Burnett from Detroit Catholic Central round out the group, nine in total, making for a strong showing for Michigan high school hockey in the 2017 USHL Draft.
